Quote: "For objective reasons, scheduled and emergency outage schedules are currently in effect. A significant improvement in the situation in Kyiv will take time – we are estimating it will happen on Thursday."
Details: Svyrydenko said that, apparently referring to Thursday next week, 15 January.
She added that Kyiv had recently suffered one of the largest Russian attacks on energy infrastructure since the start of the full-scale invasion.
The Russians deliberately used ballistic missiles, including strikes on heat-generating facilities. The situation was further complicated by difficult weather conditions and a sharp drop in temperatures.
The prime minister also said that over the past week electricity supply had been restored to nearly 700,000 consumers across the country.
Background:
- More than 1,000 buildings in Kyiv remain without heating, while supply has been restored to others. Water supply, which had been disrupted in some districts, has now been restored for all residents.
- The Kyiv Metro has been forced to reduce the number of trains operating on its lines due to the difficult energy situation in the city caused by Russian attacks.
- All electric public transport operating on Kyiv's left bank will be temporarily suspended as part of efforts to stabilise the capital's energy system.
- In Kyiv Oblast and on the right bank of the capital – with the exception of the Holosiivskyi and Pecherskyi districts – emergency power outages have been lifted.
- Energy company DTEK has said that the current electricity supply situation is the most difficult so far this winter.
- At 02:11 on the night of 10-11 January, a blackout occurred in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, leaving the region completely without power. Electricity supply was later restored.
