Nearly 500 buildings in Kyiv remain without heating, power situation extremely difficult

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has said that utility workers are continuing to restore infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks, while the situation with electricity supply remains extremely difficult.

Heating has been restored to the vast majority of buildings. However, nearly 500 high-rise residential buildings are still without heating and utility workers are continuing their work."

Details: Klitschko added that the electricity situation in the city remains very challenging, with power engineers continuing their efforts to restore electricity supply.

Background:

• Consumers in the city of Kyiv as well as in Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Chernihiv and Zaporizhzhia oblasts had been left without power as a result of Russian attacks as of the morning of 13 January.
• The State Emergency Service of Ukraine was deploying high-capacity generators to residential buildings in Kyiv districts experiencing the most severe power supply problems.
• Emergency power outages were introduced in the capital and in the Bucha district of Kyiv Oblast on the morning of 13 January.
• A number of supermarkets in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast were reported to have suspended operations due to the power outages.
• Overground electric-powered public transport on Kyiv's right (Western) bank temporarily stopped running as a result of the Russian attacks and the difficult situation in the energy system.
