Details: The attack sparked a fire at an industrial facility in western Rostov.
Fuel storage tanks at the Empils plant were likely hit by drones.
Damage to residential areas was also recorded. The Russian air defence response and the fall of debris caused fires in several high-rise residential buildings.
Update: The Russian Defence Ministry claimed in the morning that air defence systems had intercepted and destroyed 48 Ukrainian drones, specifically 25 over Rostov Oblast, 13 over Stavropol Krai, 5 over Bryansk Oblast, 1 over Belgorod Oblast and 1 over Kursk Oblast as well as 3 over temporarily occupied Crimea.
Background:
- On the morning of 13 January, the governor of Russia's Rostov Oblast reported a drone attack on the region. Explosions were heard in the city of Taganrog, and Russian Telegram channels said Atlant Aero, a defence industrial base plant which produces components for drones, and the Beriev Aircraft Company had been hit.
- Later, Ukraine's General Staff stated that its forces had struck Atlant Aero using domestically produced missiles.
