Ukraine considers easing curfew in areas affected by energy emergency

Ukraine's Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko has said the government may ease the curfew in areas where a power supply emergency has been declared. Separate decisions will determine which localities are affected.

Quote: "During the curfew, citizens will be allowed to:
- be outside and in public places without permits, including in shopping and entertainment centres that serve as invincibility or warming centres as well as in facilities supporting people's and businesses' basic needs. Such places must have heating, an autonomous power supply and stable communications. Entertainment venues are not included.
- use private transport." [An invincibility centre is a heated premises stocked with food and power banks to assist residents facing hardships due to power cuts – ed.]
Details: Additional curfew easings may be introduced by an emergency response headquarters or an oblast military administration, depending on local conditions.
The commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations will determine the areas where these curfew easings apply. The first meeting on the issue is scheduled for tomorrow.
Security and defence forces will ensure oversight and public order.
Background: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting on emergency circumstances in Ukraine's energy sector, with particular focus on the situation in the city of Kyiv. Among the decisions is the establishment of a headquarters in the capital, revision of curfew rules and a relaxation of rules for connecting backup power equipment.
