Italy commits to restoring Odesa's cultural heritage

The Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) has ratified a Grant Agreement on the Restoration and Preservation of Cultural Heritage in Odesa Oblast programme between the governments of Ukraine and Italy. The law was supported by 234 MPs.

Details: The ministry noted that the programme is aimed at preserving and restoring key cultural heritage sites in Odesa, which will strengthen the region's social and economic resilience, contribute to the preservation of national identity and promote Ukrainian culture internationally.
"This concerns the preservation of monuments, particularly UNESCO World Heritage sites, as well as an investment in national identity, trust and long-term international partnership," said Tetiana Berezhna, Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture.
The agreement was signed on 10 July in Rome during the Ukraine Recovery Conference. It provides Ukraine with €32.5 million in non-repayable assistance to implement the Restoration and Preservation of Cultural Heritage in Odesa Oblast programme.
Serhii Lysak, Head of Odesa City Military Administration, said the funds will be allocated to the restoration and preservation of the following sites:
- Odesa Philharmonic Hall (the former New Exchange building);
- Potocki Palace, which houses the Odesa Fine Arts Museum;
- Abaza Palace – the Museum of Western and Eastern Art;
- Odesa Literary Museum;
- the Wedding Palace at 4 Rishelievska Street;
- the Zontag House on Prymorskyi Boulevard.
