We are speaking frankly to our partners – both about air defence missiles and the systems we need so much. Supplies are insufficient. We are trying to speed things up, and it's crucial that our partners hear us."

Details: Zelenskyy added that much is being done at the level of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine but urged people to pay attention to air-raid warnings.

Background:

  • In his address on 8 January, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of a possible large-scale Russian strike on Ukraine on the night of 8-9 January.
  • On the night of 8-9 January, Russian forces struck Lviv Oblast with the Oreshnik ballistic missile. Its wreckage was later found by the Security Service of Ukraine.
  • The Russians also struck the city of Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast. Their main targets were a residential area and critical and transport infrastructure.
