Details: The repairs are being carried out by a Ukrainian crew, while an IAEA team on site is monitoring the progress of the work.
Background:
- Russian forces stationed military vehicles next to nuclear reactors at the ZNPP, which violates international humanitarian law that prohibits using nuclear power plants as military facilities.
- It was reported on 28 December 2025 that repair works had begun on a power transmission line near the Russian-occupied ZNPP following another local ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, achieved with the IAEA mediation.
- The ZNPP lost power from one of its high-voltage lines as a result of hostilities on the night of 2-3 January.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that there has been no consensus on the ZNPP in talks on a ceasefire in Russia's war against Ukraine, but if the plant remains under Russian control, it will not operate.
