Zelenskyy: Russians use new tactics of attacks on Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Russian forces have begun using a new strategy of missile attacks on Ukraine.

Details: The president said that in light of this, he instructed the military to immediately contact partners – first and foremost the United States – and provide them with a detailed briefing on the change in Russia's strike tactics and the specific focus on targeting energy infrastructure.
Zelenskyy said he had convened a special energy coordination call involving all government officials engaged in dealing with the aftermath of Russia's strike on Ukraine's energy sector on the night of 19-20 January. Participants included regional authorities, the military and representatives of the energy sector.
The president said that the most serious difficulties at present are in Kyiv, parts of Kyiv Oblast and Kharkiv. Separately, he noted that the call also discussed the situation in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, the city of Zaporizhzhia and Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Sumy Oblast, Chernihiv Oblast and the city of Odesa. Zelenskyy said that repair work has already begun in all regions where strikes were recorded.
Zelenskyy also stressed that, based on available information, at least some of the missiles used by Russia in the overnight attack were manufactured this year.

I instructed the prime minister of Ukraine and the minister of energy of Ukraine to provide a full analysis of recovery timelines for each region and of the necessary resources by 18:00 today. All capabilities of state and private companies in the energy sector must be directed towards ensuring the fastest possible recovery for Ukrainians."
Background:

• Russian forces launched an attack on Kyiv on the night of 19-20 January, leaving one person injured. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that non-residential buildings had been hit in the Dniprovskyi district.

• As a result of the Russian attack, 5,635 multi-storey residential buildings in Kyiv were left without heating. The city's left (eastern) bank was also left without water supply.

• In Kyiv Oblast, a man was killed and buildings at two petrol stations were damaged in a Russian strike on the night of 19-20 January.

• A Russian drone struck a residential high-rise building in Odesa Oblast, while an energy infrastructure facility was also damaged in the attack.
