Details: Vladyslav Belbas, CEO of Ukrainian Armour, said testing is ongoing at a training range for an FPV munition that uses an 82 mm mortar bomb that has been officially approved for service. The munition is deployed on a 10-inch-frame carrier drone.
The carrier drone was developed by Ukrainian Armor's design office and will be manufactured at the company's production facilities, although some components will be supplied by contractors.
In its standard configuration, the FPV munition system built around the 82 mm round will consist of 250 drones, a ground control station and an antenna with a relay. The company plans to have the product officially approved for service by the end of January 2026.
The company's engineers are also developing a heavy FPV munition using 120 mm mortar rounds manufactured in-house. In parallel, alongside drone-based "kamikaze" munitions, the team is working on a fixed-wing FPV aircraft that will serve as a carrier for rounds of various calibres.
Ukrainian Armor has codified and launched mass production of drone-dropped munitions based on in-house 60 mm, 82 mm and 120 mm mortar rounds, featuring redesigned tail units for stabilisation and contact fuzes with an initiating mechanism.
Background:
- Ukrainian Armor's first FPV system, the UB60D drone with a 60 mm round, entered service in July 2025, and mass production started in September. Its price ranges from UAH 5.8 to 6.2 million (US$133,000-143,000), depending on the configuration.
- The drones are delivered to frontline units already armed and require minimal preparation before becoming combat-ready. The company's production capacity allows it to manufacture up to 20,000 FPV munitions per month.
