Ukrainian Athletics Federation postpones youth championships after Russian attack on Kyiv

The Executive Committee of the Ukrainian Athletics Federation has decided to postpone the national youth team championships.

Details: The press service said the decision has been taken in response to worsening electricity, heating and water supply in Kyiv following a Russian attack on the capital on 20 January.
The competition will now take place on 6-7 February, rather than the previously scheduled 24-25 January. It is worth noting that the Ukrainian Indoor Athletics Cup will also be held on the same dates.
Quote from the Federation: "The organising committee is taking all possible measures to stabilise the operation of the sports venue and ensure autonomous electricity, heating and water supply at the teams' accommodation. Thank you for your understanding and resilience during this difficult time. We are working for the future of Ukrainian athletics."
Background:
- Earlier, Olympic high-jump champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh won the Oleksii Demianiuk Memorial Tournament, clearing a record height for the meet of 2.03 metres. This is also the best result in the world this season.
- Mahuchikh has announced she will compete at the Ukrainian Indoor Championships, marking her first appearance at the event since 2021, when she won gold in Sumy with a 2.00-metre jump.
