Indian refining giant returns to sanctions-compliant Russian oil after pause, says Reuters

India's Reliance Industries Ltd, operator of the world's largest refining complex, is set to resume receiving sanctions-compliant Russian oil in February and March after a one-month pause.

Details: Reliance last received Russian oil in December 2025 after the company secured a one-month US waiver allowing it to wind down dealings with sanctioned Russian oil giant Rosneft beyond the 21 November deadline.
As with other Indian refineries, Reliance is expected to buy Russian oil from non-sanctioned sellers, the sources said, without specifying how many cargoes have been booked for February and March.
It is not yet known whether the private refiner will continue buying Russian oil after March.
Background: Four of India's seven largest refiners are actively buying Russian oil as steep discounts spur them to seek "non-sanctioned" barrels, even though Reliance Industries Ltd has been holding back from trading.
