Quote: "Technological pipelines at the piers were damaged as a result of the attack. A number of tanks containing vacuum gas oil were also damaged, as well as tanks of fuel oil. Damage to shut-off valves was recorded, and this caused petroleum products to leak and subsequently ignite. The total area of the fire was about 7,000 sq m. Estimated losses, according to a preliminary assessment, are about US$50 million."
Details: The port is one of the largest in the Black Sea region and handles the transshipment of oil, gas and ammonia.
Its tank farm for storing petroleum products and liquefied gas has a capacity of over one million cubic metres.
Background: The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported earlier that units from the defence forces had struck the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal, which is involved in supplying Russian forces, on the night of 21-22 January, in addition to a number of Russia's air defence facilities.
