Another 3,300 apartment blocks in Kyiv remain without heating following Russia's attack on the capital on the night of 23-24 January.

Source: Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko

Quote from Klitschko: "As a result of a large-scale attack and damage to critical infrastructure, nearly 6,000 residential buildings in Kyiv were again left without heating this morning. Most of them are buildings that had been reconnected, or attempts had been made to reconnect them, to the heat supply after the attacks on 9 and 20 January.

Utility workers and power engineers continue their work to restore utilities to Kyiv residents' homes."

Details: The water supply has already been restored, he added.

Background:

  • The water supply has been restored on Kyiv's left bank, but without electricity, water may not reach the upper floors of some apartment blocks.
  • Mayor Klitschko reported that the area in Kyiv hardest hit by the Russian attack has been the Troieshchyna neighbourhood, where about 600 residential buildings have been left without heating, water or electricity.
  • Klitschko also said that damage to critical infrastructure has left nearly 6,000 apartment buildings without heating again. Most of these are buildings that had been reconnected, or attempts had been made to reconnect them, to the heat supply after the attacks on 9 and 20 January.
  • Kyiv's green and red metro lines were operating on a limited schedule as of the morning of 24 January. Trains were not running between the left and right banks of the city due to damage caused by the attack on the night of 23-24 January.
  • At midday, Kyiv City State Administration reported that the red metro line has returned to normal service.
