US President Donald Trump has revealed that the United States used a new secret weapon he called "The Discombobulator" during the operation to capture Venezuela's authoritarian leader Nicolás Maduro.

Details: Trump noted that the secret weapon "made equipment not work" when US helicopters arrived in Caracas on 3 January to arrest Maduro and his wife on charges of drug and arms trafficking.

"The Discombobulator. I'm not allowed to talk about it," Trump said during an exclusive interview in the Oval Office, adding that he "would love" to say more about the weapon.

"They never got their rockets off. They had Russian and Chinese rockets, and they never got one off. We came in, they pressed buttons and nothing worked. They were all set for us," the US president added.

Trump mentioned the use of the weapon when he was asked about reports that the Biden administration had purchased pulsed energy weapons suspected of causing Havana syndrome.

Little is known about the weapon itself, but these reports align with accounts from the scene in Venezuela, where armed Maduro supporters were described as dropping to their knees, "bleeding through the nose" and vomiting blood.

One member of Maduro's security detail later recalled: "Suddenly all our radar systems shut down without any explanation. The next thing we saw were drones, a lot of drones, flying over our positions. We didn't know how to react."

The Discombobulator was then allegedly directed at Maduro's guards.

"At one point, they launched something; I don't know how to describe it. It was like a very intense sound wave. Suddenly I felt like my head was exploding from the inside. We all started bleeding from the nose. Some were vomiting blood. We fell to the ground, unable to move. We couldn't even stand up after that sonic weapon – or whatever it was," an eyewitness said.
