Heating still out for Kyiv residents in 613 apartment blocks after Russian strikes

A total of 613 apartment blocks in Kyiv remain without heating, while 124 homes have had their heating restored over the past 24 hours.

Details: Heating has been restored to a further 124 buildings over the past 24 hours. The city administration said these buildings are being reconnected after repeated cuts caused by Russian attacks on 9 and 20 January.

Quote: "Utility services and energy workers are working around the clock. They are restoring heating to homes affected by the enemy's large-scale attacks on the capital's critical infrastructure facilities."

Background:

  • On the morning of 28 January, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said 737 residential buildings in the capital remained without heating. More than 1,000 utility workers are tackling the critical heating situation, with support from 10 oblasts across the country.
  • Earlier reports said hot water supplies were temporarily limited in parts of Kyiv to help restore central heating, with thermal capacity redirected to bring heat back.
