January saw Ukraine import record amount of electricity – highest since full-scale war began

Ukraine hit a record for monthly electricity imports this January – over 894,000 MWh.

Details: ExPro Electricity emphasised that this is the highest level of electricity imports since the full-scale war began.
According to the analysis, electricity imports jumped by 40% compared to December 2025. Hungary continues to account for the largest share, at 45%.
Overall, supplies increased from all directions except Moldova. In addition, a record daily import level of 41,900 MWh was recorded in January.
ExPro Electricity noted that there were no electricity exports in January 2026. Overall, no electricity has been exported since 11 November 2025.
Background: Ukraine's Ministry of Energy reported that in January, the country imported a record daily volume of 41.9 GWh of electricity from the EU.
