Quote: "Today I signed new sanctions decisions. We are synchronising our steps with the UK and extending sanctions whose term was expiring.

First: we are extending sanctions against former oligarch Dmytro Firtash and, as part of this synchronisation, applying sanctions against his close circle and companies under his control. All entities linked to Russia and its structures deserve to be blocked."

Details: In addition, the president extended sanctions against Viktor Medvedchuk's associate Taras Kozak and eight companies linked to him.

"Long before the start of Russia's full-scale aggression, these individuals chose Russia for themselves – and therefore war. We will continue to counter every such entity," Zelenskyy added.

Background:

  • In 2021, Zelenskyy signed a decree enacting a decision by Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council of 18 June to impose sanctions on 540 companies and 538 individuals for three years and indefinitely.
  • In June 2024, Zelenskyy signed a decree extending sanctions against Ukrainian businessmen Dmytro Firtash and Pavlo Fuks, as well as a number of Russian oligarchs, for 10 years.
