"That's why the president continues so aggressively to pursue a diplomacy to end this war. That's why Special Envoy Witkoff and Jared Kushner will be in Abu Dhabi tomorrow for another round of trilateral talks," she said.

Leavitt described the talks in the United Arab Emirates as "historic", saying that "never before have these all three of our countries really been able to sit down at the negotiating table to move the ball forward towards peace".

"Special Envoy Witkoff and Jared Kushner and President Trump made the impossible possible with respect to peace in the Middle East, and I know they're looking to do the same with respect to the Russia-Ukraine war as well," she added.

  • US Secretary of State Marco Rubio earlier said that Witkoff and Kushner would not attend the next round of talks with Russia and Ukraine.
  • Later, an Axios correspondent said that Witkoff is expected to attend the next round of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, set to take place on 4-5 February in Abu Dhabi.
