First round of Russia-US-Ukraine talks concludes in Abu Dhabi, continuation set for Thursday

The Ukrainian negotiating team has completed the first day of trilateral talks with Russia and the US in Abu Dhabi aimed at resolving the Russo-Ukrainian war.

Background:

  • The Ukrainian delegation in Abu Dhabi includes Rustem Umierov; Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the President's Office, and his First Deputy Serhii Kyslytsia; Davyd Arakhamia, leader of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction; Andrii Hnatov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; and President's Office adviser Oleksandr Bevz.
  • Umierov said the Ukrainian team planned a bilateral meeting with the US delegation, represented by US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, to discuss a security guarantees document and the "prosperity plan".
  • The trilateral talks in the United Arab Emirates follow a large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine. Following the latest strikes, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the work of the Ukrainian delegation in peace talks will be adjusted.
