Details: The rest of the schools in those districts are holding classes in person.
About 45% of schools in Kyiv's Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts are without heating. Heat supply was cut after Russian attacks on critical infrastructure facilities.
Quote: "Due to significant damage to Darnytsia CHPP-4 [combined heat and power plant], restoring the heat supply system will take at least two months, provided there is no repeat damage.
Under these circumstances, these educational institutions have switched to remote learning while repair work is carried out."
More details: Schools that still have heating are operating as normal, with classes continuing in person. Parents and teachers will be informed separately if the mode of learning changes.
Each school's mode of learning is being decided individually, as experts assess whether adequate conditions can be provided for children and staff to remain on site.
A total of 153 education buildings across the capital are still without heating, or 15% of all schools.
Background:
- After the winter holidays were extended, nearly 110,000 schoolchildren returned to in-person learning in Kyiv.
- Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said repairs to the Darnytsia CHPP, critically damaged in Russia's 3 February attack, will take at least two months, provided there are no further devastating Russian strikes.
- Experts have also established a list of more than 1,100 multi-storey residential buildings that will remain without heating until the combined heat and power plant is repaired.
