Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has said that Russian terror against Ukraine is putting the entire European continent at risk of a nuclear accident.

Details: Sybiha noted that Russia has recently stepped up attacks on Ukraine's nuclear energy system, creating a direct risk of a nuclear accident. He said it is only thanks to the professionalism of Ukrainian nuclear energy experts that such an accident has so far been prevented.
The minister said recent Russian attacks have forced Ukraine's three operating nuclear power plants to reduce capacity, occasionally trigger automatic emergency shutdowns, cut generation, or disconnect units – and each such situation poses a direct threat.
In addition, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recently recorded numerous drone flights near nuclear facilities in Rivne and Khmelnytskyi Oblast, which is classified as a significant security threat.
Quote: "Russian terror puts all of Europe at risk of a nuclear incident – partners and media need to pay attention and act now to stop nuclear terrorists in Moscow."
Details: Sybiha outlined several potential solutions: sanctions against the Russian nuclear energy agency Rosatom, Ukrainian proposals to amend the IAEA Statute, and stronger air defences to help Ukrainian defenders prevent Russian strikes on the nuclear energy system.
Background:
- On Saturday 7 February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that some units at Ukraine's nuclear power plants have reduced generation due to Russian strikes on 7 February, and one has shut down automatically.
- IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi noted that Ukrainian nuclear power plants have stopped operations due to the Russian attack on the morning of 7 February, and the situation is compromising nuclear safety.
