Cooper arrived at the negotiations in uniform to underscore the US military presence in the region.
In addition, US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is playing an important role in processes related to Russia's war against Ukraine.
Associated Press reports that Driscoll maintains constant contact with Ukrainian officials between negotiation rounds, ensuring coordination with the American side.
Both negotiation sectors are being coordinated by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. According to experts, the involvement of military figures departs from traditional US diplomatic practice and also signals the administration's readiness to consider tougher options.
