Details: The main reasons cited were the return of EU quotas on agricultural products, Russian strikes on energy facilities and rail and port infrastructure, as well as attacks on Ukrainian vessels in ports and in the Black Sea.

The maize harvest was also delayed, with producers having collected only 92% of the crop so far.

The delay was mainly linked to weather conditions. Due to rains machinery could not access some fields, while high moisture levels forced farmers to dry the crop before exporting it.

Background:

  • Taras Vysotskyi, Deputy Economy, Environment and Agriculture Minister, said earlier that Russian strikes on Ukraine's sea ports affect export rates, cutting shipments by 20-30%.
  • It was reported in October that despite positive harvest prospects, Ukraine's maize market is facing a range of challenges including delays to the harvest campaign, grain quality issues caused by moisture and weak export activity.
