Netherlands allocates extra €35m to support Ukraine's energy sector

The Netherlands has allocated an additional €35 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.

Details: The ministry said the new Dutch contribution has brought the total support provided through the fund to €100 million.

The €35 million will be used to install rooftop solar power systems.

The aim of the project is to supply critical infrastructure facilities, primarily hospitals, even when the central electricity grid fails due to Russian attacks.

The ministry reported that total pledged contributions from international partners to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund now exceed €1.8 billion.

Background:

• Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko reported that a shipment of 177 generators arrived in the capital from the European Union on 5 February.
• On 4 February, Spain delivered six high-capacity generators to Ukraine.
• Ukrenergo, Ukraine's state-owned electricity transmission operator, approached Poland for help after Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine's energy facilities on the night of 6-7 February.
• It was also reported that the Vatican had arranged the delivery of 80 electric generators as well as medicines and food to Ukraine.
