Air defence operations being overhauled in some oblasts – Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Ukraine is making significant changes to the operation of its air defence.

Quote: "Today I had a lengthy conversation with the military – the commander-in-chief [of the Armed Forces of Ukraine], the chief of the General Staff and the defence minister of Ukraine. There are significant changes underway in the way air defence works. In some oblasts the system is being almost completely restructured – interceptors, mobile fire groups, and the entire short-range air defence component.
But that is only one element of defence that needs to change. There will also be changes in the oversight of supplies of drones, weapons and, most importantly, personnel to the front line. People are the key issue: training and real reinforcements for brigades."
Details: Zelenskyy said there will be further decisions from the military command that will "strengthen Ukraine and solve existing problems".
He did not give any further details but said the Defence Ministry and the military will present "fully developed" decisions.
Background:
- On 6 February, Zelenskyy said he was dissatisfied with the Air Force's response to Russian attack drones in some Ukrainian oblasts.
- On 7 February, he ordered additional reinforcement for mobile fire groups in certain oblasts.
