Kyiv combined heating and power plant stops again after new Russian strike, district head proposes alternatives

The combined heating and power plant (CHP Plant-6) in the Troieshchyna neighbourhood in Kyiv has halted again after another Russian strike on 12 February.

Quote: "Another hit on the CHP plant. Heating in Ukraine's largest district has stopped again. If we don't start thinking now about decentralised heat and power generation, the Desnianskyi district will freeze next year.
Even if we pour billions of hryvnias or maybe even [US] dollars into repairing the destroyed CHP plants, the aggressor state will keep striking them. And the heat [supply] will stop again."
Details: Bakhmatov said that smaller facilities could improve the situation for Kyiv's left bank.
Quote: "There are 130 small boiler houses in Kyiv, and they are providing heating right now. That is the right bank. We don't have that.
By 15 September, we must build 100 MW of electricity capacity and 300 MW of heating. Or more.
That volume will definitely give us a chance to get through the next heating season. Without an alternative for electricity and heating, there won't even be a chance in the years ahead."
Background:
- Russia once again attacked a thermal power plant belonging to DTEK, the largest private energy company in Ukraine, on 12 February.
- Nearly 2,600 apartment blocks in the city of Kyiv have been left without heating due to a large-scale Russian attack on the night of 11-12 February. Another 1,100 buildings remain without heating after earlier attacks.
- It was reported on 9 February that heating was partly restored in one of Kyiv's most affected districts, Troieshchyna.
