Ukraine's chief negotiator names delegates for next round of talks with Russia and US

Rustem Umierov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, says the Ukrainian delegation has begun preparations for a meeting between Ukraine, the United States and Russia that will take place in Geneva on 17-18 February.

The president of Ukraine has determined the provisional composition of the negotiating team. Along with me, the delegation will include Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine; Andrii Hnatov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; Davyd Arakhamiia, leader of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction; Serhii Kyslytsia, First Deputy Head of the President's Office; and Vadym Skibitskyi, Deputy Head of Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
The team has been formed taking the military, political and security aspects of the process into account. We will work on substantive decisions within the framework set by the head of state. The goal remains unchanged: a stable and lasting peace."
Background:
- Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today that the next round of trilateral talks on ending Russia's war against Ukraine will take place in Switzerland on 17-18 February.
- Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the next round of talks with Russia was scheduled for 17 or 18 February and would be held in the United States, but the Russian side had not yet agreed at the time.
- A communiqué on the outcome of the trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi on 4-5 February states that the US, Ukrainian and Russian delegations discussed methods for implementing a ceasefire and monitoring the cessation of hostilities.
- Following the Abu Dhabi talks, the US and Russia agreed to resume high-level military dialogue.
