Kherson State University building comes under Russian attack for fourth time in a month – photos

A building belonging to Kherson State University has been damaged in a Russian attack. The fifth building of the university was hit, rector Oleksandr Spivakovskyi said.

Quote: "The aggressor continues to destroy Kherson State University buildings. Now it is the fifth building, where the department of Ukrainian and foreign philology and journalism was based along with the department of history, psychology and social work… It seems the Russians have sorted out all their issues with education."

Details: Most media outlet reported that several floors of the building were damaged in the attack, with windows blown out. Some window frames were destroyed or temporarily covered with plywood.

The facade was pockmarked by shrapnel. The attack blew out doors and damaged the canopy structure. Glass, wood and metal debris remains scattered across the surrounding area.

Since the start of 2026, Kherson State University buildings have repeatedly been damaged in Russian attacks.

On 16 February, the university's main building was damaged in an attack, including classrooms of the department of physics and mathematics, which housed physics laboratories. The building was also hit in late January, when the postgraduate department and the office of the chair of the university's academic council were damaged.

In early February, the university's student accommodation was damaged twice.

Background: One of the buildings of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and a student accommodation at the state-owned Kyiv Aviation Institute (formerly the National Aviation University) was damaged in a Russian large-scale attack on Kyiv on 27 December 2025.
