Russia recruited 1,000 Kenyans to take part in war against Ukraine

Kenya's intelligence service has reported that Russia has recruited 1,000 Kenyans to take part in thewar against Ukraine.

Details: The report says that as of February this year, 89 Kenyans were on the front line.

At least one Kenyan citizen has been killed and several others have returned home with injuries or trauma, the report adds.

The Kenyan government, which previously estimated that about 200 of its citizens had been recruited to fight on Russia's side, wants Moscow to ban conscription of Kenyan soldiers.

Background: In South Africa, state radio station SAfm presenter Nonkululeko Mantula was arrested on suspicion of recruiting men to take part in war against Ukraine on Russia's side.
