Quote: "We believe that real opportunities to end the war with dignity still exist, and the world's ability to pressure the aggressor could significantly help ensure that a dignified peace replaces the war. We count on another round of negotiations being organised very soon, as early as this February, and on that round becoming truly productive."

Details: Speaking to journalists, Zelenskyy elaborated that another round of talks is set to take place within 10 days, with Geneva as a potential venue.

The Ukrainian leader also said he had received a detailed report from his negotiating team following their meetings in Switzerland and that he had discussed issues that could not be raised over the phone.

Quote: "Ukraine's responses to the most difficult questions ahead of the next meeting are ready. The priorities for our negotiating team for the future meeting in the trilateral format and with the United States have been defined. We continue working to ensure readiness for leaders to meet and resolve issues that cannot yet be settled at the team level."

Background:

  • On the morning of 18 February, Rustem Umierov, head of the Ukrainian delegation and Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council (NSDC), said the second day of Ukraine-US-Russia talks on resolving Russia's war against Ukraine had begun in Geneva.
  • Vladimir Medinsky, head of the Russian delegation, said later that the 18 February round of trilateral talks in Geneva on Russia's war against Ukraine had wrapped up. He said the talks lasted about two hours and were difficult but business-like.
  • Zelenskyy said that during the talks, the parties had agreed that monitoring of compliance with a ceasefire would be carried out with the participation of the United States.
  • He later added that the political issues surrounding possible compromises and the essential meeting between the two leaders were not sufficiently worked through at the trilateral Ukraine-US-Russia negotiations.
