Details: Shmyhal said the plant provides heat for 500,000 people in Kyiv.
Quote: "In January, after another strike, the station stopped generating electricity. And at the start of February, five ballistic missiles hit the site and heat production stopped. More than 1,100 apartment blocks, 118 schools and kindergartens and 18 hospitals were left without heating."
More details: Shmyhal said that Ukraine's energy sector has been supported this winter by more than 40 countries and organisations. In 2025, about €600 million was secured through the Energy Support Fund. Since the start of the full-scale war, Ukraine has received more than 2,000 humanitarian shipments for the energy sector.
Background:
- The Darnytsia CHP Plant in Kyiv sustained critical damage in Russia's 3 February attack, and it will take at least two months to repair its systems and equipment, provided there are no further devastating Russian strikes
- Experts have examined the damage to the Darnytsia CHP Plant and compiled a list of more than 1,100 apartment buildings that will remain without heating until the plant is rebuilt.
