Ukrainian photographer and cinematographer Vadym Tykhonovskyi killed in action

A farewell ceremony for soldier, photographer and cinematographer Vadym Tykhonovskyi was held on 2 March. He had gone missing on 22 July 2025 in Sumy Oblast. His death was recently officially confirmed.

The institute posted a farewell to Vadym. He was a graduate of the institution.

Details: Vadym Tykhonovskyi was 28. He was from Kyiv. His father, Oleksii Tykhonovskyi, is an employee of the Lesia Ukrainka National Academic Drama Theatre.
In 2019, Vadym graduated from the Department of Cinema and Television Arts of the institute (creative workshop of Oleksandr Alifanov) and took part in the Kinoko short documentary film competition, where he presented his film Stvorennia ("Creation").
"His portrait works stood out for their deep psychological insight, sharp vision and bold composition – this is how his own artistic style was formed," the institute wrote on its page.
Vadym Tykhonovskyi worked as a photographer and cinematographer. He collaborated with Kyiv theatres, creating reports of performances and events.
Following the start of the full-scale invasion, Vadym was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 78th Separate Air Assault Regiment and was later attached to the 225th Separate Assault Regiment. He qualified as a UAV operator.
On 22 July 2025, Vadym went missing near the village of Kindrativka in Sumy Oblast. His death has recently been officially confirmed. The institute stated that Vadym was killed while saving four of his fellow soldiers.
