Zelenskyy: US asks for help in defending against Shahed drones, Ukraine to provide experts and equipment

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that the United States has asked for support in defending against Shahed loitering munitions in the Middle East.

Background:

• Bloomberg reported that Zelenskyy has offered to send Ukraine's top experts in countering Iranian drones to the Middle East if leaders persuade Russian leader Vladimir Putin to agree to a one-month ceasefire.
• Earlier, it was reported that the US and at least one Persian Gulf country are negotiating the purchase of Ukrainian interceptor drones to protect against Iranian Shahed drones.
• CNN reported that the US military considers Iranian Shahed-type UAVs a challenge and that existing air defence systems may not be able to reliably intercept them all.
