VR simulators help Ukrainian Air Assault troops train to counter Russian drones – photos

Virtual reality technology is used to train soldiers from the 7th Rapid Response Corps of Ukraine's Air Assault Forces to repel attacks by Russian first-person view (FPV) drones.

Details: Bohdan demonstrated the Dronobii VR simulator developed by the Ukrainian company L7 Simulators near the stand of the 7th Rapid Response Corps at the Ukrainska Pravda conference War 2026: Humans vs Machines. The trainer realistically simulates combat conditions.

Quote from Bohdan: "Our service members undergo adaptation training at the training ground, which generally lasts 14 days. Before they fire at real drones, they train on the simulator. For this, we use VR goggles and a special dummy pump-action shotgun. The soldiers perform two exercises: one while moving and the other while stationary. Their task is to shoot down FPV drones."
More details: Bohdan said that during the simulator exercise, a soldier must shoot down five FPV drones in virtual reality and is given ten shots to complete the task.

He added that the brigade has a training ground and a separate classroom equipped with four portable Dronobii VR simulators. Training there began about five months ago, and since then hundreds of service members have completed the course. Requests for such training continue to come in regularly.

The unit became a partner of the conference War 2026: Humans vs Machines.
During the event, Ukrainian company Skiftech, which specialises in the development and production of military trainers and simulators, also presented two new products: a trainer for a petal-type anti-personnel mine and a kamikaze drone simulator designed to prepare soldiers to counter FPV threats.
