Kremlin on easing of oil sanctions: US and Russian interests have coincided

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that the interests of Moscow and Washington have "situationally coincided" with regard to the lifting of US sanctions on Russian oil currently at sea.

Quote: "In this case we see the actions of the United States – an attempt to stabilise energy markets – and in this regard, our interests coincide.
We have heard statements by US representatives to the effect that this exemption has now indeed been made for oil that had been loaded prior to 12 March. But there has also been a statement that overall the US has no plans to lift any oil sanctions on the Russian Federation going forward.
So at present our interests have indeed situationally coincided, and that is how we assess this."
Background:
- On 12 March, the US lifted sanctions restrictions on the purchase of Russian oil and petroleum products currently at sea for 30 days.
- The licence issued by the US Treasury permits the delivery and sale of Russian oil and petroleum products that had been loaded onto vessels as of 12 March. The licence will remain in effect until midnight on 11 April Washington time.
