Spain announces €1 billion military aid package for Ukraine

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has announced €1 billion in military aid for Ukraine in 2026 during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Madrid on 18 March.

Details: Sánchez pledged that Spain would support the Ukrainian people "with the same intensity as on the first day" of Russia's full-scale invasion.
Quote from Sánchez: "The Spanish government and the whole of our society believe that Ukraine should become part of the European Union. I would like to present new support measures from Spain. First and foremost, €1 billion for 2026 for military assistance."
Details: Sánchez said that part of this aid, financed through the EU's SAFE instrument, will be directed towards establishing joint production with Ukraine's defence industry.
In addition, some equipment will be supplied by Spain's Ministry of Defence, he added.
Sánchez emphasised that Spain's total support for Ukraine has already reached €4 billion.
