Teenager injured in Sumy attack survived Russian strike on bus last year

A teenager who was injured today in a Russian attack on a military enlistment office in Sumy was also there when a bus in Sumy was hit by the Russians on 13 April last year. Maksym, now 16, was shielded by his mother on that occasion.

Details: Yatsyna reported that Maksym is in intensive care.

A volunteer named Artem told Kordon.Media that he and a police officer had provided first aid to Maksym: they applied a pressure bandage and wrapped it around his head to prevent him from opening his jaw, as his cheek had been torn open.

Background:

  • Earlier, local authorities in Sumy reported that a 16-year-old civilian and a woman were injured during an attack on a street near the military enlistment office.
  • On 13 April 2025, the Russians launched two ballistic missile strikes on the centre of Sumy. The death toll was 34, including two children, and 117 people were injured, 15 of whom were children.
