Ukrainian stabbed to death in Ireland after going out to buy food

A 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen was fatally stabbed in the Irish city of Cork after leaving his home to buy groceries for his family.

Details: The incident took place on Monday at around 20:00 local time in Cork city centre on Lower John Street. The man had left his apartment to buy food for a family dinner ahead of St Patrick's Day.
The victim was originally from Ukraine but had lived in Ireland for most of his adult life.
Detectives believe the attack was an unprovoked street assault.
Despite sustaining serious stab wounds, the man managed to walk nearly 100 metres back to his residential complex in Camden Court to seek help. He lost a significant amount of blood and collapsed shortly after reaching the building.
Neighbours who saw him immediately called the emergency services. Paramedics arrived within minutes and tried to stabilise him, but he died at the scene from his injuries.
According to reports, police have arrested a 40-year-old man suspected of conducting the attack. He is currently in custody.
Although the murder weapon has not yet been found, police are relying on the extensive CCTV network in the area as part of the investigation.
