An industrial complex in the Czech city of Pardubice where a fire broke out on 20 March was producing drones for supply to Ukraine.

Details: Law enforcement authorities are treating the fire in Pardubice as deliberate arson after media reports suggested that a group calling itself Earthquake Faction had claimed responsibility for the incident, stating it was a protest against Israeli weapons.

The building in Pardubice houses production facilities for Holding LPP, a company that collaborates with the Israeli firm Elbit Systems in the development and manufacture of drones. Some of these drones, including the Divoká svině UAV, are supplied to Ukraine as part of volunteer fundraising initiatives by the Dárek pro Putina (The Gift for Putin) campaign.

The organisers of the initiative stated that, based on early reports, the fire had not affected drone deliveries to Ukraine.

Former military intelligence chief Andor Šándor said the incident is unusual for Czechia, as it involves a largely unknown group. He noted that one possible explanation is Russian sabotage or a so-called false-flag operation.

"Of course, this cannot be ruled out entirely. In their statement, the alleged perpetrators refer to Gaza, which seems somewhat strange to me, as the conflict in Gaza began three years ago in October and is no longer in an active phase," Šándor added.

Previously: A group of protesters claimed to have set fire to a "key production centre" for Israeli weapons in Pardubice in order to stop its role in what they described as "genocide in Gaza".

Background:

  • In the Netherlands, Iranian involvement is suspected in an arson attack on a synagogue door in Rotterdam. In a Belgian city, an explosion at a synagogue is also under investigation.
  • In Amsterdam, an explosion occurred near a Jewish school last weekend.
