Quote: "Ukraine's unique defence capabilities and experience in protecting life are of great interest not only for the Gulf.

Countries across the world are watching developments in the Middle East and see how cost-effective and technologically advanced Ukrainian capabilities are.

We are interested in developing mutually beneficial partnerships, not only in Europe, North America, and the Gulf, but also in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and other regions."

Details: Sybiha stressed that modern Ukraine is a guarantor of security and a reliable partner for those who share its values and ideals and seek to protect lives from any threats.

"From this new perspective, it is also difficult to understand why any decision-maker in any NATO member state would prefer to have Ukrainian strength outside the Alliance rather than integrated into it," the minister added.

Previously: On 22 March, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian units had already achieved results in helping protect Gulf countries from Iranian attacks and that Russia is irritated by the fact that the world needs Ukrainians.

Background:

  • On 9 March, The New York Times, citing Zelenskyy, reported that Ukraine had sent interceptor drones and a team of drone experts to help protect US military bases in Jordan as the war in Iran was spilling beyond its borders.
  • On 10 March, the Ukrainian president said that Ukrainian security and counter-UAV experts would travel to Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
  • The same day, Zelenskyy said in an address that Rustem Umierov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, had travelled to the Middle East together with military personnel.
  • On 15 March, the president specified that three teams – each numbering "dozens of people" – had been deployed to the region.
  • On 20 March, Umierov said that units tasked with intercepting Iranian drones had been deployed in Gulf countries to help protect civilian and critical infrastructure.
