Ukrainian parliament says information about MP Koriavchenkov’s trips abroad is classified – UP

The Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) has refused to provide information about foreign trips taken by Yurii Koriavchenkov, an MP from the Servant of the People faction whom Ukrainska Pravda journalists tracked down in Spain.

Quote: "We inform you that due to the imposition of martial law in Ukraine, information regarding official trips by Members of Parliament of Ukraine has been classified as official information within the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, its bodies and the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (paragraph 54), and therefore cannot be provided pursuant to Article 22.1.2 of the Law of Ukraine On Access to Public Information."

Background:

  • Yurii Koriavchenkov, better known as "Yuzik", an MP from the Servant of the People faction and an actor from the Kvartal 95 studio, left Ukraine for Spain after being questioned by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). According to Koriavchenkov, he is on holiday.
  • In a comment to Tkach, the MP said he was in Spain on unpaid leave and insisted that this was lawful.
  • Koriavchenkov added that his wife had purchased an apartment in Spain but could not specify its size or price, saying that all the information would be available in his declaration.
  • He was also unable to say where or in what capacity his wife works.
  • In addition, the MP could not recall how often he visits his family in Spain or whether he spent New Year with them. However, he acknowledged that he had been with his family in January, February and March, including for seven days in February during a "business trip".
  • The MP also declined to comment on his questioning by NABU.
