India approves US$25bn arms purchase, including Russian weapons – Bloomberg

India has approved the purchase of weapons and military equipment worth US$25 billion, including Russian S-400 air defence missile systems.

Details: The procurement includes five additional Russian S-400 systems worth around US$6.1 billion.
Quote: "The S-400 system will counter enemy long-range air vectors targeting vital areas."
Details: India is already operating three S-400 systems, which were used during a four-day conflict with Pakistan in May last year. Two more systems are expected to be delivered in the coming months.
Quote: "Despite a drop, Russia continues to be India's biggest supplier of military hardware accounting for over a third of weapons purchases, according to a 2025 report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, which tracks global arms sales."
Background: Indian oil refineries have purchased around 60 million barrels of Russian oil for delivery next month, reportedly at a premium.
