Zelenskyy says agreements are in place to keep Ukraine supplied with diesel fuel

Ukraine requires around 700,000 tonnes of diesel and petrol every month to meet nationwide demand, including that of the defence forces, with annual volumes amounting to approximately 7.2-7.4 million tonnes. Now agreements have been secured to ensure diesel supplies for a year.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "As of now, the defence forces are fully supplied. The armed forces are our priority. We know the exact volumes – how much diesel and petrol is supplied to the entire country, including the military – are around 700,000 tonnes per month. We also understand the annual volumes to be approximately 7.2-7.4 million tonnes."
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine understands how to secure these supplies and said additional agreements are being discussed to ensure the unconditional priority of the Armed Forces.
"At the very least, it was necessary to agree on how to keep the country supplied with diesel in case of shortages or global challenges, and I have secured diesel supplies for a year," the president said.
"So far there have been no complaints from the defence forces – they are fully supplied," Zelenskyy added.
Background:
- On 20 March, a programme was launched in Ukraine offering partial refunds when fuel is purchased at participating petrol stations as part of the National Cashback scheme.
- Earlier, Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko stated that the fuel market is sufficiently supplied with resources, panic buying is subsiding, and the state company Ukrnafta continues to set a benchmark for fuel prices.
- As of 23 February, fuel prices in the European Union had risen by 10.5%, while prices at Ukrainian petrol stations did not reach that level until 4 March, according to Pavlo Kyrylenko, chair of Ukraine's Antimonopoly Committee.
