"The facility sustained significant damage. There are no casualties among personnel. If I am not mistaken, this is the fifth strike on the facility since the start of the full-scale invasion.

The plant will continue to operate, as it has a very large number of employees. We will restore operations, but how long this will take – we are not ready to say," Anastasiia Cherednykova, the refinery's legal department head, said in a statement for Suspilne.

Details: At 09:26, State Emergency Service firefighters reported that they were extinguishing a fire in Merefa.

Background:

  • As a result of Russian drone attacks and artillery strikes on energy infrastructure in frontline regions, households in Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts remain without power as of the morning of 8 April.
  • Hourly power outages for the population have been introduced in most regions of the country, despite 8 April having been expected to pass without them.
