Hungary's incoming Prime Minister Péter Magyar has claimed that current Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has not disappeared but is in Budapest, where he is allegedly destroying important documents related to sanctions.

Details: Magyar noted that Szijjártó's absence alongside former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had sparked speculation that he had left the country. However, according to Magyar, Szijjártó is at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he arrived at 10:00 with his colleague Eszter Gyarmati and has since been "destroying documents on sanctions".

"We know that his people are destroying documents just like in the old communist times. Shredders are running at full capacity not only in the ministries but also in other institutions. But this will not help them," Magyar said.

"We do not know many things; there are numerous international agreements and secret government decisions that we know nothing about," he added.

According to Magyar, Viktor Orbán had taken out loans under unknown conditions, which the election-winning party is also unaware of. Therefore, its top priority will be to obtain all relevant documents.

Background: Earlier, Hungarian media had drawn attention to the absence of Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó from public view since it became known about the historic defeat of Viktor Orbán's party in the elections.
