Details: Poland has received a request from Slovakia for permission for Fico's aircraft to fly to Moscow, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maciej Wewiór said.
He added that the request is currently being reviewed.
Background:
- On 19 April, Fico complained that Lithuania and Latvia will not allow his aircraft to pass through their airspace so that he can attend a military parade in Moscow on 9 May.
- Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha thanked Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia for making that decision.
- Last year, the Baltic states also refused to allow Fico's aircraft to cross their airspace en route to Moscow.
- The ban on overflying the Baltic states obliged Fico to take a southern route to Moscow via Hungary, Romania, the Black Sea, Georgia and Russia.
