Ukraine is still expecting American negotiators in Kyiv, Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Ukrainian President's Office, has said.

Details: Budanov said the Ukrainian side is still expecting a visit to Kyiv by US President Donald Trump's special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Quote: "Essentially, nothing has changed here. Clearly, everyone can see the situation that is now unfolding in the negotiations between the US and Iran. This creates certain problems, so to speak, for the intensity of talks here. But we are waiting for them in Kyiv. This is information well known to everyone. And I think it will still happen."

More details: Budanov also stressed that the terms for achieving peace could vary greatly, but nobody in Ukraine would agree to recognise the loss of even a millimetre of Ukrainian territory.

Background:

  • In mid-April, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged last week that the Trump administration and its negotiators have now shifted their focus away from the talks on the Russo-Ukrainian war due to the war with Iran.
  • Kyrylo Budanov said earlier that he expected a US delegation to arrive in Kyiv after Orthodox Easter, which fell on 12 April this year.
  • Zelenskyy said earlier that Ukraine has still not received confirmation of the dates when Witkoff and Kushner will visit Kyiv.
