Details: Asked about the prospects for ending the Russo-Ukrainian war, Trump said he believes a resolution is approaching.
"The end of the war in Ukraine I really think it's getting very close," he said.
"Believe it or not, it's getting closer, and we think we're going to end up getting a settlement between Russia and Ukraine," Trump added, once again repeating his claim that he had "settled eight wars".
He was also asked whether there was an "understanding" between him and Russian leader Vladimir Putin that Russia should receive all of Donbas under a future peace agreement. Trump replied briefly: "No."
Background:
- Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski suggested that Putin is beginning to think seriously about how much longer he can continue waging his war of aggression against Ukraine.
- Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stressed that Ukraine's basic condition for any potential peace agreement with Russia is that Kyiv makes no territorial concessions relative to the current line of contact and no compromises regarding Ukrainian sovereignty.
