Details: Trump said he discussed the war in Ukraine with Chinese President Xi Jinping and that both leaders agreed they want the fighting to end.
"It's one that we'd like to see settled. Until last night, it was looking good, but they [the Ukrainians] took a big hit last night. So it's gonna happen [the end of the war]. But it's a shame," Trump said, referring to the Russian strike on Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for Russia to be punished for the strike after laying red roses on the rubble of the residential building on Friday.
Russian ruler Vladimir Putin is expected to visit China next week and meet Xi. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists that the exact dates would be announced soon.
Peskov said Putin hopes to discuss Trump's visit to China with Xi, along with bilateral relations and international issues.
Background:

- Recently, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged the lack of "a fruitful outcome" in the peace process regarding Ukraine but said the United States remains ready to continue mediating between the Ukrainian and Russian sides if circumstances change.
- Rubio also admitted that momentum in the peace negotiations has been lost for various reasons.
