Details: The satellite images from Vantor, dated 3 June, reportedly show a fire onboard the vessel in the port of Kronstadt in St Petersburg and firefighters working to put it out.
Defence Express has reported that the corvette was in a dry dock. The outlet reports that the ship was hit in the middle of the hull – in the area of the bridge and the mast structure.
According to Defence Express, that is where the Project 20380 corvette's key radio-electronic equipment is located, including surveillance radar, missile targeting radar, navigation radar, an electronic warfare system, and artillery control stations.
The outlet suggests that the roof of the bridge may have collapsed after the strike. Defence Express says this would have been caused by the strike and the subsequent fire, as metal is weakened by high temperatures and composite materials were used in the ship's construction.
Defence Express says the greatest damage to the corvette may have been caused by the fire following the drone strike, rather than solely by the explosive force of the warheads.
Quote from Defence Express: "Overall, the fire that broke out after the drone strike caused more damage to the Russian ship than the blast effect and fragments of the warheads. Fires on ships are extremely destructive, as flames spread through cable routes, ventilation channels, and spaces between decks."
